HOME

The arrival montage continues with a return to West 57th Street in front of 9 West with the camera shooting up and to the east.

Then we see the Empire State Building behind a signal light.  This was shot facing south on 5th Ave. The traffic light is at East 42nd Street.

Then we see Crockett and Tubbs hit the streets. Not allot is seen of the background so it took some time to find this location. It was filmed with the camera located on the NE corner of the intersection of 57th Street and Madison Ave. C+T exit the cab west of Madison Ave. by the first street light on the south side of E. 57th Street. They then walk east on he south side of E. 57th Street toward Madison Ave. With what is now the IBM building seen behind them.

Then we see New York also has scenery. C+T are walking southbound on the west side of Madison Ave. approaching East 56 Street.

Then we see C+T walking east on East 54th Street approaching Park Ave. and then they turn south on Park Ave.

Next we see Crockett and Tubbs inside a New York City Police Department. This was filmed on set inside Greenwich Studios, Miami. Thanks to Rick Bravo for confirming this.

Then we meet James. This was filmed outside 221 West Broadway in the Tribeca district of NY, NY. As C+T tail James away from the apartment building we get a glimpse of the World Trade Center Towers in the background.

Crockett and Tubbs follow James to breakfast. There they introduce themselves and get the deal rolling. According to Matt5 at Miami-vice.org this was filmed at the Square Diner, 33 Leonard Street. This means in real life James turned the wrong way. Instead of turning left he should have turned right and crossed W. Broadway and then he would have been at the diner.

Next we go to club Delirious. There we run into Valerie. Thanks to Rick Bravo, we now know that this was filmed on set inside Greenwich Studios. Thanks Rick.

C+T are unable to make a deal but that is o.kay because they are not really there to make a deal. They are there to draw Revilla out.

Next we see James meet with the Revillas. They give Jimmy the word to scare him off. Nobody does business with the Americans. Thanks to Matt5 at Miami-vice.org we now know this was filmed on East Houston Street at the intersection of LaFayette Street. On the south side of E. Houston St. just east of LaFayette Street.

Then we enter the “You belong to the city” montage. For a long time I believed this started on Roosevelt Island shooting toward the United Nations and the Empire State building. While the UN and Empire State Building area is what we are looking at, we are not viewing it from Roosevelt Island. The camera was located a bit south of Roosevelt Island, on the east bank of the East River between 47th Avenue and 47th Road.

Then we move down to Jay Street at the south end of the power station. (99% sure on this location but not 100%).

Then we see Crockett walk past a parking garage/ Rolex watch store. He walks past a couple working girls that are standing next to a lighting store that has an awning advertising track lighting and recessed lights and he continues on. Thanks to Ketoille who took the time and effort to e-mail me with the information, we now know that this was filmed on East 58th Street with Crockett walking westbound across 2nd Avenue just a few feet south of East 58th Street.

Then northbound up 2nd Avenue above 58th Street. 98% sure on this one but difficult to confirm.

Then we see traffic southbound on 2nd Avenue with the garage/watch store we saw at the start of this walking montage seen in the background. The camera swings around to the east then south viewing where we see Crockett hailing a cab in the bus lane outside 1065 2nd Avenue (midway between 56 and 57 Streets).

Location unknown.

Location unknown. Burberry store in the background.

Crockett ends his walk by walking through the World Trade Center Plaza.

Next we cut back to Tubbs with Valerie still at Delirious.  Location Unknown.

Then we see Crockett in a bar. There he toys with and is toyed by a blond. As he leaves and grabs a cab she shares the ride. This was filmed at Loews which was located next door to the Henry Miller Theater (now Stephen Loudheim) at 124 West 43rd Street. The Cafe 43 (as in 43 Street) and the Hotel Carter sign that can be seen in the background help to locate this filming location.

Then we see Crockett waking up at her place. Location unknown, likely a set at Greenwich.

Then we see Valerie and Sacco leaving the Gramercy. The Gramercy House is located at  235 East 22nd Street.

Tubbs is following his gut, and keeping an eye on things.

Then it cuts back to Crockett at the girl’s (Margaret) place. His Bren is missing. Location unknown.

Next we see Crockett and Tubbs meet with James at a parking garage where James keeps his car. This was filmed at 17/19 East 12th Street. For a period of time it was an Alamo rental parking garage. I visited here in June of 2014. Unfortunately a little to late as the place had already been gutted and construction of condos within the building had started. The Forman on the job was a hard core Miami Vice fan and let me into the site but the interior had been completely changed.

It cuts to northbound on Madison Ave. crossing East 36th Street.

Then to Jimmy talking to a street level dealer who is parked on a motorcycle. This was filmed in Sunflower park. It took me some work to find this location despite the fact that it would clearly be in the vicinity of the Holland Tunnel based on the signs seen in the background. Not until I realized that the bike appeared to be parked amongst what was likely, iron sculpture, not construction that was underway did I get the lead I needed. Some research revealed that a gypsy sculpture named Bob Bolles had made the art work by the Holland Tunnel on a small triangle shaped traffic island at the intersections of Thompson, Broome, and Watts Streets.

Then to 6th Ave. driving by 1155 6th Ave. As we had seen earlier in the arrival montage.

If your wondering about the icons (44 thru 57) they are not from Miami Vice filming but for on location filming for the 1983 movie, Scarface.

Then further south. To the dock area just north of Joralemon St. where we see a view of the southern part of Manhattan from across the river.

As they kiss, we see the Henry Miller Theater behind them. The Theater was gutted in 2004 which is when I believe the Loews was destroyed. The theater was opened on April 1,1918 and was the first air conditioned theater in Manhattan. Only the exterior walls remain from the original structure since the 2004 renovation.

We see them pull out of the garage and head east on 12th Street towards University place. They start to turn right (southbound) onto University Place before it cuts.

C+T exit cab.

He continues westbound down 58th Street.
