 Miami Vice

 Episode 35

Yankee Dollar

HOME

Original air date:  01/17/1986.

Filming for this episode took place from Monday, December 2, 1985 thru Wednesday, December 11, 1985 with additional filming done on January 6th and 7th, 1986.

The episode starts out inside the O.C.B. This of course is the set inside Stage A at Greenwich Studios.

Then it cuts to Miami International Airport where Crockett meets a girlfriend. This was filmed at gate 12, D Concourse.

Then we see the Daytona headed south on Brickell Ave. passing S.E. 15th Road and turning into The Palace, 1541 Brickell Ave..

Then it cuts and they are still southbound but now they are up in Hollywood Florida on the Broadwalk. They pull up to the last house, at Georgia Street. 811 South Surf Road.

While there, Sara drops to the bathroom floor, sick from an overdose. Sonny takes her to the hospital. This was filmed at Jackson Medical Center, 1611 NW 12th Ave., Miami.

Then we see the standard season two opening montage.

After the montage we are still in the hospital. Crockett finds out that Sara died from a cocaine overdose. This leads Crockett and Tubbs back to Sara’s. We see them arriving headed east on Georgia Street. They are not the only ones there.

After sending the two guys away that were only there to sell a car, Crockett and Tubbs go inside. In a somewhat rare occurrence, they used the real interior of the beach house for filming instead of a set. Sara’s brother shows up on the scene and this leads to a foot chase on Hollywood Beach.

Then we go to a police interrogation room. This was filmed on a set at Greenwich Studios.

Timmy leads them to Charlie Glide. We cut to Biscayne Bay where Crockett and tubbs are out in the Scarab watching Glide’s house. We have seen this house used several times in vice before, Stone’s War, Golden Triangle, The Great McCarthy as well as in the remake of the movie Scarface. 485/490 West Matheson Drive, Key Biscayne.

Filming Goof:  It is not obvious to the viewer but in real life Crockett and Tubbs are not looking at Glide’s house. They are looking away from Glide’s house out over the bay.

Crockett drops Tubbs off a few houses away at another house we have seen before in Vice (The Great McCarthy), 28 Harbor Point Dr. Key Biscayne.

Crockett continues on to Glide’s house.

Then we go to the Police Department property room. We see an establishing exterior shot of the police station, Location unknown but the police car parked outside looks like an old L.A.P.D. car so this may be old stock footage from California. Then we go into the property room where there is a black rat walking on the evidence. This was filmed at Greenwich Studios.

Next we see Tubbs make contact as a buyer in need of product. This was filmed at Horatio’s, Rickenbacker Causeway on Key Biscayne.

Then we see an establishing shot of the exterior of Glide’s office/bank. This was filmed at 1001 South Bayshore Drive.

Then we go inside Glide’s office. This was filmed at 3620 NE Miami Place.

Next we cut to Glide’s study, it is now nighttime and Timmy goes in and is talking to Rogo looking to meet with Glide.  Rogo shoots Timmy with Glide’s gun.  This was filmed at the Ortega residence. 485/490 West Matheson Drive, Key Biscayne.

Then we see the police recover Timmy’s body. Strangely, Rogo dumped the body in Glide’s backyard. We can see Richard Nixon’s helipad in the background as they recover the body.

Then we go back to Horatio’s where Glide and Rogo talk over lunch. Charlie realizes that the cops are trying to put the slide on Charlie Glide.

Then we cut back to Glide’s study (Ortega Residence). It is dark out again and Crockett is meeting with Glide.

Next we see Tubbs and Rogo meeting at Horatio’s the next day.

Then it is back to the exterior of 1001 S. Bayshore Dr., Glide’s bank building.

Then we go inside. This was filmed on a set at Greenwich Studios.

As Glide leaves the bank, Stan and Larry enter. View is looking north up S. Bayshore Dr. The reverse of the view we saw in the movie Tony Rome when Mr. Kosterman was shot at the Four Ambassador’s building site.

Then we see Crockett arrive at the deal. This was filmed near Horatio’s at the Miami Marine Stadium. Burn notice has since used this location in episode 38, A Dark Road.

Then we cut to the police interrogation room.  A set at Greenwich Studios.

This leads us to a sit down meeting aboard the Rio Pon, a converted freighter which in real life had been seized by U.S. Customs. For filming the freighter was located off Crandon Marina, 4000 Crandon Blvd., Key Biscayne. Tony Rome’s Marina as well as Michael Gallagher’s (Absence of Malice).

Next we see Crockett driving in the Daytona. When we first see him he is northbound on N. Bayshore Drive having just entered the Key Stone Isles. There is a bridge over a canal seen in the background and beyond that, traffic signals can be seen. These signals are at the intersection of N. Bayshore Drive and NE 123rd Street. The same intersection that we saw used in The Home Invaders where Crockett and Castillo attempt to pull over Mrs. Goldman.

He comes to a stop, apparently at a red light. In real life there is neither a red light nor even an intersection there. Just a quite neighborhood. He then thinks he sees Sara, but it is only his eyes and mind are playing tricks on him. For this they cut and have moved back to the south side of the bridge and are now facing south at the intersection of NE 123rd Street. Crockett is next to the Whitehouse Inn.

Next we go to the conference room in the O.C.B. A studio set at Greenwich Studios, Stage A.

Next we see Stan and Larry staking out a boat house on the Miami River. This was filmed at Ray Ann Apartments, 1610 N.W. North River Drive in Miami.

Then we go inside. The inside was filmed back at Horatio’s where Rogo calls Lydia. She is in her bath. Her bathing was filmed at the Ortega residence at 485/490 W. Matheson Dr. in Key Biscayne.

Then we see a car pull into a modern looking club. I did not recognize this exterior so I did a quick search on the internet and found it’s location. Lucky I could read the name of the club on it’s sign. For this shot they traveled all the way to Hollywood, Ca. Well probably not. Maybe they just grabbed some stock footage. This is the same club made famous in the movie Beverly Hills Cop385 North La Cienega Blvd., Hollywood, CA.

As seen in Beverly Hills Cop.

Then we see Crockett and Tubbs meet the Rio Pon off Key Biscayne.

Then we go back to the boat house on the Miami River. We see a car pull up on the west side of the house.

Then we see Crockett and Tubbs coming up river from the east.  The Mahi Shrine Auditorium can be seen in the background.

A close up shot reveals that we can still see where the round window had been and is now patched over.

The deal does not go well for Crockett and Tubbs.

This leads us back to Horatio’s. Where Rogo is wishing that Crockett and Tubbs were dead.

This leads us to the real drug deal. This was filmed at the Merrill Stevens boat yard, 1270 N.W. 11th St./12th Ave. in Miami.

Here the episode ends with “justice”.
